How ASA Pro/Am scoring works
The Archery Shooters Association runs its Pro/Am tour on 3D targets with one arrow per target and four scoring rings: 12, 10, 8 and 5.
What makes ASA different from every other 3D rulebook is that each target has two 12-rings, and you decide before the shot which one you are going for.
Keep an ASA score with ArcTrail 3D
The round
- 20 targets per round
- one arrow per target, from your designated stake
- a Pro/Am tournament is two rounds of 20
- theoretical maximum of one round: 20 × 12 = 240
A tournament is 40 targets, but the scorecard is per round. In ArcTrail 3D one round is one scorecard, so a full tournament is two rounds in the app — the same way you would keep two paper cards.
The scoring rings
| Where the arrow is | Points |
|---|---|
| 12-ring | 12 |
| 10-ring | 10 |
| 8 (vital area) | 8 |
| 5 (rest of the body) | 5 |
| Miss, or glances off and goes past | 0 |
A line cutter scores up: the shaft must touch the line of the next higher ring to get the higher value.
The two 12-rings
Every ASA target has a lower 12-ring and an upper 12-ring. The lower one is in play for everybody by default. You may call the upper one instead, by announcing it before the shot — and once you come to full draw, the call cannot be changed.
Both are worth 12. The call does not change the score table; it changes the bet. That is why ArcTrail 3D records a 12 as a 12 and does not ask which ring you called.
Known and unknown distance
The rulebook designates every ASA class as Known or Unknown distance. The ring values above are the same in both.
What about the 14?
You will read about a 14-ring on forums and blogs. The scoring section of the 2026 Pro/Am rules lists 5, 8, 10 and 12, and nothing else. Until it is written there, ArcTrail 3D does not offer a 14.
Ties
ASA breaks ties by counting bonus rings (the 12s) and then by closest to the center of the 10-ring. That is a ranking decision taken at the event: ArcTrail 3D records every 12 you shoot, but it does not rank anyone.
Practice ASA with ArcTrail 3D
ArcTrail 3D is a free scoring app for training and for your own record of rounds. Pick the ASA rulebook once, before you start, and the app switches to one arrow per target and the 12/10/8/5 rings:
- Pro/Am — 20 targets, one arrow each, the tournament format;
- Training — the same rings, from 1 to 99 targets.
It works without a connection on the course, keeps a diary of your rounds and shows how your scores move over time.
ArcTrail 3D is an independent project and is not affiliated with the ASA.
At an event, the tournament rules, the organizer's instructions and the official scorecard always apply. Check them with the organizer before you shoot.
